Student Exhibits and Shows

Tenth Annual WAEA Student Exhibit “Possibilities” March 1st – May 31st 2008

This year’s annual student exhibition, “Possibilities,” stems from the connections between visual art and nature, science and technology. Student work will explore possibilities, create questions - as well as consequences raised within these connections.

The exhibit will coincide with artist Patricia Piccinini’s exhibit “Hug” at the Frye Museum. Patricia Piccinini is an Australian artist whose work is a response to the possibilities that are evolving within our environment through science and technology. Her work brings the viewer into the world and challenges them to connect their own ideas to possibilities. Within each piece of art work, there is always a story happening that inspires and challenges the imagination of each viewer.

“I have always loved the idea of creating an entire world of my own. I guess that is why you become an artist, because you get that opportunity. What I have learned however is that the world of my imagining is nowhere near as strange or impossible as I first thought. In fact, the more I learn about the ’real’ world, the more I realize just how truly bizarre it is.” Patricia Piccinini Artist Statement: In Another Life catalogue, Wellington, New Zealand
